2023 BFA SHOW: IMAGINATION IN CHILDHOOD

The show consists of 7 27"x 63" acrylic paintings centered around the concept of children and imagination. When in even the most mundane settings, how are children able to reconstruct the world around them? Using color and painterly expression, I hope to implement feelings of wonder, fantasy, and dreamlike nostalgia.

The size of the paintings was based on my love for cinema and storytelling. The paintings were measured out in a 16:9 Cinemascope screen ratio. The goal of this format is to help the viewer fully visualize the paintings as scenes. The saturated colors and illustrative style serve to implement a bright, youthful energy. An energy that can be found in both children and adults.

The project heavily draws inspiration from some of my favorite books and movies growing up. I wanted to share the same imaginative experiences with the viewer. The series wishes to recall childhood nostalgia through the illustrative scenes meant to push viewers to remember the way they felt as children or experience an unfamiliar sense of wonder.
